Author’s note: I was at the residential detox I work at one day about six months or so ago, right when Covid was starting to turn hysterical, and I was dealing with some chaotic mental health patients, so I thought I’d go outside, get some fresh air, and get the mail. The only thing I found in the box was this Shen Yun pamphlet, which their aggressive marketing campaign sends to every man, woman, and child. Since there was a lot of talk of China going around, and since I had actually seen one of their performances, going so far as to write a piece about its practitioners, the Falun Gong, I felt inspired to keep banging their creative gong by going full William S. Burroughs cut-up arts & crafts status on them, especially since I’d recently started getting into the mail art world. So I took a page out of preschoolers books by using scissors, markers, whiteout tape, and other things available to me via my office desk. With all that was starting to transpire in the world, I felt it necessary to try and find the humor in the absurdity, while providing commentary on multiple levels.
