About

When we founded miserytourism.com on April Fools’ Day in 2012 as a place to share our homebrew tabletop games, we gave the site the tagline “terrible games about terrible people in terrible situations.” While the focus of the site has expanded since then to include all kinds of material–including but not limited to articles, fiction, and poetry–the essence of that original pitch remains true. Perhaps today you could summarize our mission as “terrible content from terrible people, born of a terrible situation.” That terrible situation, of course, is life, and we’re looking for the bits of novelty, emotion, and humor lurking underneath its intrinsic ugliness.

We’re dredging life’s fertilizer lagoon for a few fresh bodies, the less completely decomposed, the better.

Your “about” soliloquy is itself a lovely hunk of explication that speaks well of your strangely expanding mission. I guess the presumed weed-strewn chasm that separates homebrew tabletop games from … poetry? … isn’t unbridgable after all. Who knew?
